HERAT: farewell visit of the ISAF Joint Command commander to Regional Command West

Herat, April 25, 2013 – This morning, U.S. Lieutenant General James L. Terry, Commander of the ISAF Joint Command (IJC), close to the end of his mandate, visited the Regional Command West (RC-W) in Herat to greet the soldiers of the Italian-led multinational contingent and introduce his successor, Lieutenant General Mark A. Milley.
Welcomed on arrival by the RC-W commander, Brigadier General Ignazio Gamba, the IJC outgoing commander addressed a farewell speech to the personnel of the military base ‘Camp Arena’, emphasizing the importance of the work done in the Afghanistan western region and thanking the men and women of the multinational contingent for their contribution to the quantitative and qualitative growth of the local security forces which, shortly, will be able to assume the full responsibility for the security of the Country. “The nations which you represent can be proud of your effort” said the U.S. General. Before leaving for Kabul, General Terry addressed a special greeting to the American personnel stationing in Herat, congratulating them for the excellent results achieved in cooperation with the Italian-led international coalition force.
