KABUL, Afghanistan (May 8) – An Afghan-led and coalition supported security force detained a senior Taliban leader during an operation in Almar district, Faryab province, today.
The leader organized roadside bombings, suicide attacks and other operations against Afghan and coalition forces throughout the province. Additionally, he coordinated with Taliban leaders to provide funding and operational guidance.

In Zharay district, Kandahar province, an Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to capture a Taliban leader today. The leader directs roadside bombings against Afghan and coalition troops, and operates illegal checkpoints throughout the district. He also provides weapons and ammunition to insurgents in the area. The security force detained multiple suspected insurgents as a result of this operation.
An Afghan and coalition security force conducted an operation to capture a senior Taliban leader in Sangin district, Helmand province, yesterday. The leader, along with his brother, is responsible for Taliban operations against Afghan and coalition security forces in Sangin and Kajaki districts. He is also active in intimidation and murder campaigns against Afghan civilians in northern Helmand who refuse to adhere to Taliban law. The security force detained multiple suspected insurgents as a result of this operation.
Finally, a Provincial Response Company, supported by coalition security forces, detained an improvised explosive device manufacturer and discovered a improvised explosive device cache during an operation in Shah Joy district, Zabul province, Saturday. The cache consisted of a number of IED components, explosives and weapons. Several additional insurgents were also detained during the operaiton.
